SPCA warns of Parvo

Parvovirus outbreak linked to area of Shubie Park

Dog owners are being warned about recent cases of canine parvovirus in animals who've been in the Shubie Park area, from the Shubenacadie Canal to Dartmouth Crossing.

A local veterinary hospital passed the information along to the Halifax Regional Municipality, which released the warning today.

Posters have been placed in park to notify owners.

The SPCA had already issued a notice of an increase in the number of cases of parvovirus.

The virus is transmitted when a dog comes into contact with the feces of an infected animal.

The intestinal tract is where most of the damage occurs when it enters the body. The virus can kill a dog. It's most serious for puppies, but the disease can also be fatal for adult dogs.

Vomiting, watery and foul-smelling bloody diarrhea, weight loss, and lethargy are all symptoms. The incubation period is three to seven days.

HRM is reminding dog owners ofthe importance of picking up after their pets.

I guess now if a certain dog gets sick, it will be said it is parvo and the SPCA caused it....

  4. Well Ms Rogier may think she won, however the control of her and her dog remains with AC,now She has to hire a certified trainner, and abide by a few rules,ie take a course,at her expense. I know several people who could help her out; certified trainers;however will run once they find out who the owner is,also the fence will have to come down and a new one built....Well I guess there will be an attempt at more fund raising.....No more trips to mersey lodge....Back to square one show me the money!..yet HRM has 30 days to appeal as does the owner...The fun has only started.

  5. so DOES SHE HAVE TO PAY POUND FEES ????I DIDN'T WANT BRINDI TO GO BACK TO HER ,,,,SHE IS STILL AN IDIOT...

  6. I think I heard they were going to waive the pound fees back a while ago. Could be wrong though.

She still hasn't got the dog back....she has some hoops to jump through first and I wonder if she can manage to get them jumped. I would like to give her the benefit of the doubt, but I don't think it is going to happen.

I worry for Brindi in her hands. She may walk the walk and talk the talk til she gets her own way and then what? She feels she knows more than anyone and I am afraid she will revert back to her old ways once she (IF)gets Brindi home.

    Do people change their spots??

  7. Sometimes people change their ways but usually there is an indication that things will change in the persons attitude. Didn't hear any of that through it all with the 'I am better than and above the law' and the 'Brindi is my posession' crap. I hope and pray for Brindi's sake she can get her shit together for good not just for the mean time. IMO I think if she gets Brindi back she's going to move.... Just speculation tho. Can you imagine the kund of pressure she'll be under by her neighbours and community? I suspect if she slips up even once Brindi will be as good as gone. If she's smart....she'll move....

  8. Clara, I hope you're wrong about the pound fees.... What a crying shame it would be if they waived them all. The only way people really learn is if you hit them where it hurts most...the pocket book. No way in hell SPCA should have to foot the entire bill for her stay. BS I say!
