Um, what were they saying about "irresponsible"?
Today, a man was attacked by a dog in the pound so severely that he had to be hospitalized.

Man bitten at Metro SPCA
Pest control technician treated at hospital after attack
By PATRICIA BROOKS ARENBURG Staff Reporter

A man was taken to hospital after he was bitten by a dog at the Metro SPCA shelter.

Police and paramedics were called to the animal shelter at 5 Scarfe Ct. in Dartmouth at about 11:40 a.m. Monday after a reported dog bite.

The shelter is closed to the public on Mondays, but staff and volunteers are there to care for the animals.

"We had a technician come in, a pest control technician," said Kristin Williams, executive director of the Nova Scotia SPCA.

"Unfortunately, he entered a back area without an escort and he encountered one of our dogs and was bitten in the hand and taken to hospital."

Krista Beck, a spokeswoman for Emergency Health Services, said later Monday that the man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax with injuries to his hand and possibly his leg. The injuries were not life-threatening, Beck said.

Halifax Regional Police were called to the shelter because it was believed the dog was not secure, which turned out to be untrue, said spokesman Const. Brian Palmeter.

At the time of the attack, the female mixed-breed dog "was getting some R&R social time (outside of its kennel), but it was still a restricted area," Williams said.

The dog, described as a young adult canine, has been at the shelter since August, when it was seized by order of Halifax Regional Municipality, Williams said. It was not part of any cruelty investigation, she said.

She didn’t know whether the dog had bitten anyone prior to arriving at the shelter last summer but said it hadn’t bitten anyone at the shelter before this.

"This was an isolated incident and we obviously feel very sorry for the individual and hope that he has a quick recovery," Williams said.

The Metro SPCA, which had the municipal animal control contract, has a handful of dogs at the shelter that are awaiting proceedings to determine their fate, including Brindi, a dog that has been the subject of court proceedings and in the headlines for some time.

Williams said Brindi was not the dog involved in Monday’s incident.

Although the shelter has asked the municipality to allow the dogs to have "socializing time outside of the shelter, such as walks outside of the shelter, we’ve been told we’re not permitted to do that," Williams said.

"It’s a very difficult situation for us."

The dog involved in Monday’s incident is "back in quarantine . . . but we haven’t received further direction from HRM other than to return her to kennel, which we’ve done," Williams said.

The municipality’s animal services division is investigating.

We don't want to seem overly critical, but we have to ask: who's irresponsible now, Kristin Williams? HRM? Whether or not it's an "isolated incident" matters little to the man, and even less under the law. The fact is that it happened, and there was no "due diligence". If they were ever charged, this attack would likely earn the SPCA staff a guilty conviction in provincial court (and a euthanization order for the dog).

The SPCA runs the HRM pound within the confines of the Metro Shelter, a modestly sized building. We have been led to believe the pound is kept separate from the rest of the shelter. So it's hard to understand how a dog could be walking around loose, especially when they know the place is going to be sprayed for bugs? And why wasn't anybody accompanying the man, or at least watching the dog?

However, if the dog is loose, we can easily understand how such an attack could happen. The SPCA pretty much admits these dogs are not given enough exercise, though they blame that on HRM. So the dog is bound to be a bit wired up, and react to a strange man approaching - possibly with some equipment, or a mask, or whatever. But this should not have happened. And somebody was indeed irresponsible.

Meanwhile, if what is said about Brindi is true, we are thrilled to note that in a year and a half of her illegal incarceration, Brindi has never bitten anybody, staff or stranger, at the pound. They say she is allowed to walk around too and obeys all the obedience commands her owner taught her. It's possible she was even loose at the time of this other attack, who knows? Such a dangerous dog!

Still, the SPCA says her owner is too irresponsible to have her back. The newspaper talks about the plan to find Brindi a "suitable home". We think they all ought to sit down and give that position a little more thought. The rest of us can draw our own conclusions.

However, for the sake of Brindi's health, and the health of all of the animals there, what about the pest control being done? Exactly what kind of poisonous chemicals are these dogs being exposed to?? And what kinds of pests have infested the building?

  2. Just at a quick glance, I see it says it was a secure area so maybe the guy should not have entered without checking first. As for the pests, what do you think they would be spraying a dog and cat kennel for??
Maybe it is those new 'Frannie' pests, I don't know.

  3. Its to damn bad that Fran has to spin a tall tale, the man was not hospitalized but taken to the hospital. Further he was in a restricted area;I see no mention in the article that he asked permission to go in or just took it upon himself to walk in.
The word that Fran loves ,"due diligence" since I doubt that Fran was there and wouldn't know; maybe there was a sign on the door saying "Employees Only".

In my opinion Fran is just grasping at straws!

  4. "Unfortunately, he entered a back area without an escort and he encountered one of our dogs and was bitten in the hand and taken to hospital."

Gee ya think he went where he wasn't suppose to be??? Without asking the staff to escort him?? Or even if he was able to enter there??

Fran has got to get a grip. The only reason Brindi has been safe is BECAUSE of the SPCA. She was at fault from day one. It could have been very easily Brindi. Fran barks that Brindi is stuck in a cage but now barks because one was out , who btw deserves to be out just like Brindi. That dog is no more important then any other.

  5. Yeah, we figured you'd blame the man!!! LOL very funny stuff!
You don't really know what to say, though, do you, because to you, the SPCA just can't do anything wrong. Well, surprise!

This time, neither you or they can pass it off on somebody else. The man was there to do a job. They were in charge, and they let this happen, period. If he wandered into the wrong area, that's their fault for not making it clearer, and not escorting him.

This story makes me really wonder if Brindi is safe at all there!! She can get poisoned, she can get attacked by that dog or another dog, and she has gotten very ill in their hands, and this has NOTHING to do with Francesca- Francesca was on hand for every time Brindi got into trouble and it was over in SECONDS!! But by contrast, no one was watching here!

I sure hope that dog had its shots. And I hope the dogs don't get cancer from the chemicals, or a disease from whatever "pests" are there!!

But beware because this is the beginning of the end, my friends.

  8. To bad for Ms. Rogier and her blogs etc. Yes what they say will be printed here, to show how stupid they are. There is many many more people who actually count who read this blog. They also pass it on. So you see, you are doing this blog a favor. Keep posting lies, people are seeing the truth just by you. I know I did. So I guess I should thank you for that. I never gave as much as others. You and your friends stopped me from giving more. As the saying goes, never throw good money after bad. You have $400 of my money but you will never get another penny from me. You will never get any support from me either. I certainly hope you pay the lawyers with the money you conned people into giving, which that was what it is suppose to be for. Or are you going to scam them too?

I am signing Anon because I don't want death threats , stalking, being lied about, harassment plus other things like a few others get from you and your friends. My God I feel sorry for you. You are in need of so much medical help. I hope a mental assessment is done on you and SOON.

  10. I find it interesting that a person who gave Fran 400 dollars, now that is one person out of 7000 people that she claims support her world wide, one supporter has sent her 1000 dollars from Florida. Now lets say that each of the 7000 people that she "claims" support her gave her an average of 100 dollars, well my math tells me that amounts to 700,000 dollars. Its no damn wonder she doesn't have to work, on top of that she is still asking for donations.
Now since She is not a registered charity, I suspect she has paid income tax on that amount, there is a line on the income tax forms for gifts,I hope she complies as it will be brought to her attention in the near future, sometimes you got to love Rev. Canada.

Now to Mom of 7, I can't recall seeing any comments from you before,if you wish to re send I will consider posting them,I did delete one or two because of language issues. If I decide not to publish your comments I will explain why.

Now anonymous who claims we are blaming the man: Who I suspect is Fran; claims that when Brindi got in,"TROUBLE" it was over in seconds when Fran was on hand. Well maybe a re read of the supreme court case may be in order,it was minutes in fact several minutes not seconds as anonymous claims.

  11. Fran you are too funny, I know you don't mean to be. BTW you just made it 6 by your count! However by our emails, we have a large following, they just don't choose to post because they know how they can be attacked by the 'Fran Clan' and no one really needs that. It is really a shame that lies are being manufactured and spread in an attempt to make people look bad. Not really a good idea.

  12. Anyone know Francesca's immigration status? How does she get to stay in this country?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Due dilligence works both ways....'the man' being in his position should have had enough common sense to check before going in. I suspect it wouldn't get far in the court system as anon would suggest.

  14. Let's drop a dime on this convicted person and get her deported. Keep Brindi here and rehomed with a responsible owner, but send Francesca back where she came from. She has clearly nothing to offer this country except to be a huge drain on the court system and our tax dollars.

  15. No chemicals. Live trap and release of mice. Get your facts straight before you go off half-cocked as usual Francesca.

  16. I'm shocked that grown adults have time for all this nonsense!

  17. Well let's just say when someone is wasting your hard earned tax dollars to fight against something they started in the first place, I'd be shocked if you didn't have something to say about that.
